What Is sodalite?
Chemical Composition: Sodalite is a sodium aluminium silicate chloride mineral with the chemical formula Na₈(Al₆Si₆O₂₄)Cl₂.
Origin: Sodalite is found in several countries, including Brazil, Canada, Russia, Namibia, and the United States.
Crystal System and Habits: Sodalite belongs to the cubic crystal system and typically forms in massive or granular habits. Well-formed crystals are rare but can be found in dodecahedral shapes.
Crystal Family or Group: Sodalite is part of the feldspathoid group of minerals.
Hardness and Durability: Sodalite has a hardness of 5.5 to 6 on the Mohs scale, making it relatively durable but susceptible to scratching.
Colour: Sodalite is typically a rich royal blue, often with white streaks of calcite, and may occasionally include grey or greenish tones.
Methods for Cleansing and Charging sodalite
Water: Avoid prolonged exposure to water, as sodalite is somewhat porous and may absorb moisture. A quick rinse under running water is acceptable, but drying it immediately is recommended.
Moonlight: Place sodalite under the light of the full moon to cleanse and recharge its energy, allowing the moon’s calming influence to enhance its clarity and communication properties.
