Angelite

About

Angelite, also known as blue anhydrite, is a pale blue to bluish-grey mineral composed of calcium sulphate. Found primarily in Peru, it is formed from the dehydration of gypsum in dry, arid environments.

Birthstones & Anniversaries

Angelite is not a traditional birthstone but is associated with the zodiac sign Aquarius, symbolising communication and higher understanding.

Crystal Healing Energy

The overarching theme of angelite is peace and spiritual communication. Angelite is believed to assist in connecting with higher realms, including guardian angels and spirit guides. Its calming energy promotes serenity, compassion, and understanding, making it ideal for meditation and stress relief.

Facts

Formation Process: Angelite forms through the dehydration of gypsum, typically in arid environments over long periods.

Soft and Fragile: With a Mohs hardness of 3 to 3.5, angelite is relatively soft and should be handled with care.

Water Sensitivity: Angelite should not be immersed in water, as it can revert to gypsum and lose its structure.

Geographical Sources: The finest angelite specimens come from Peru, but it is also found in other arid regions worldwide.

Synthetic angelite is not commercially produced.

Imitations

Dyed quartz is sometimes used to mimic angelite’s pale blue appearance. These materials may lack the matte texture and soft translucency of natural angelite.
