Something to Note...

We believe that the true power of crystals comes from your personal connection with them.

Rather than relying on lengthy descriptions of what a crystal can do, we encourage you to use your intuition when selecting which crystal you need. Very often the elaborate descriptions will likely leave you feeling more overwhelmed and confused than clarified!

By tuning into your intuition, you'll discover how the crystal can uniquely support you in your journey. Trust the process, listen to the energy it offers, and let it reveal its purpose to you — because the best healing comes from within.

If you need help on how to select crystals, you can follow our “How to Choose Crystals Guide”.

What Is Carnelian

  • Chemical Composition: Carnelian is a variety of chalcedony, a cryptocrystalline form of silica (SiO₂), with its reddish-orange colour coming from iron oxide inclusions.

  • Origin: Carnelian is found in several locations worldwide, including Brazil, India, Madagascar, Russia, and Uruguay.

  • Crystal System and Habits: Carnelian belongs to the trigonal crystal system and typically forms in massive or nodular habits, often as tumbled stones or polished cabochons.

  • Crystal Family or Group: Carnelian is part of the quartz family and a variety of chalcedony.

  • Hardness and Durability: Carnelian has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, making it durable enough for jewellery and everyday use.

  • Colour: Carnelian ranges from light orange to deep reddish-brown, with an earthy and often translucent quality.

Methods for Cleansing and Charging Carnelian

  • Water: Carnelian is safe to rinse under running water for cleansing, but avoid prolonged exposure to moisture.

  • Moonlight: Place carnelian under the full moon to cleanse and recharge its energy. The moon’s gentle energy enhances its grounding and revitalising properties.

  • Sunlight: Carnelian responds well to sunlight, as its fiery energy aligns with the sun. A brief exposure to sunlight can help recharge its vibrant energy.

  • Selenite: Use a selenite plate to cleanse and charge carnelian by placing it on the plate for several hours to refresh its motivational and energising properties.

  • Visualisation: Hold carnelian in your hands and visualise a bright orange or red light flowing through it, clearing away stagnant energy and amplifying its courage and vitality.

  • Sound: Cleanse carnelian using sound vibrations from a singing bowl or tuning fork. Let the sound waves pass through the stone to refresh its energy.

  • Smoke Cleansing: Pass carnelian through the smoke of sage, palo santo, or other cleansing herbs to purify its energy and restore its empowering vibrations.

  • Storage and Protection: Store carnelian in a soft pouch or cloth to prevent scratches and keep its surface polished and vibrant.

How to Use Carnelian

  • Meditation and Spiritual Work : Use carnelian during meditation by placing it near your sacral or root chakra to enhance energy, motivation, and creativity. Its energy helps you connect to your inner fire and personal power.

  • Jewellery and Accessories : Wearing carnelian as jewellery keeps its vibrant, motivating energy close throughout the day, helping to boost confidence, creativity, and drive.

  • Home and Office : Place carnelian in your home or workspace to create an atmosphere of energy, motivation, and productivity. Its energy encourages action and focus, making it ideal for those working on projects or creative pursuits.

  • Crystal Grids : Use carnelian in crystal grids designed for motivation, creativity, or personal empowerment. Pair it with stones like citrine or red jasper to amplify its energising properties.

  • Elixir or Infused Water : Carnelian is safe for direct contact in elixirs due to its durability. Use it to charge water with energy, motivation, and creativity.
